Bontebok National Park Welcomes Visitors Back After Flood Repairs
Following extensive rehabilitation work, Bontebok National Park has officially commenced a phased reopening of its facilities to the public.
A Fresh Start for Bontebok
After significant flood damage impacted the park in May 2026, SANParks has announced that Bontebok National Park is once again welcoming guests. The park has undergone a rigorous rehabilitation process to restore essential infrastructure, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for nature lovers.
What is Open Now
As of the phased reopening, visitors can once again access several key areas of the park. The current offerings include:
- Six self-catering chalets for overnight stays.
- The main camping site for those looking to reconnect with nature.
- Access to the scenic Aloe Hill, Acacia, and Termite hiking trails.
Planning Your Visit
While the park is making great strides, some areas remain under refurbishment. The eight riverside chalets, Die Stroom Picnic Site, and the Bushbuck Trail are currently closed as work continues. Guests are encouraged to check the latest updates from SANParks before booking to ensure their preferred facilities are available. This phased approach allows the park to balance ongoing restoration with the return of tourism to this beautiful region.
