Bontebok National Park Welcomes Visitors Back After Flood Repairs
Following extensive rehabilitation work after the May 2026 floods, Bontebok National Park has officially reopened its gates to the public.
A Fresh Start for Bontebok
After months of closure due to severe flood damage experienced in May 2026, Bontebok National Park has successfully entered a phased reopening as of September 2026. SANParks has confirmed that significant progress has been made in restoring essential infrastructure, allowing nature enthusiasts to return to this scenic Western Cape destination.
What is Currently Open
Visitors can now enjoy a variety of facilities that have been cleared for safe use:
- Accommodation: Six self-catering chalets are now available for booking.
- Camping: The main campsite has been restored and is ready for campers.
- Hiking: Guests can once again explore the Aloe Hill, Acacia, and Termite hiking trails.
Ongoing Restoration Efforts
While the park is welcoming guests, management notes that rehabilitation remains a priority. The eight riverside chalets, along with the popular Die Stroom Picnic Site and the Bushbuck Trail, remain closed while refurbishment continues. SANParks encourages visitors to check for updates as additional facilities are brought back online in the coming months.
