Bontebok National Park Reopens Following Flood Repairs
Bontebok National Park has officially entered a phased reopening, welcoming campers and hikers back to the reserve after extensive flood rehabilitation.
A Welcome Return to Bontebok
Following the severe flood damage experienced in May 2026, Bontebok National Park has successfully commenced a phased reopening as of 1 August 2026. This milestone follows months of intensive infrastructure rehabilitation aimed at restoring the park's natural beauty and visitor facilities.
What is Open for Visitors
Nature enthusiasts can now enjoy a variety of activities and accommodation options. The current phase of the reopening includes:
- Six self-catering chalets for overnight stays.
- The main camping site for those looking to reconnect with the outdoors.
- Access to the Aloe Hill, Acacia, and Termite hiking trails.
Future Restoration Plans
While the park is welcoming guests, some areas remain under construction. The eight riverside chalets, Die Stroom Picnic Site, and the popular Bushbuck Trail are still undergoing refurbishment. SANParks continues to work diligently to restore these areas and will provide updates as more facilities become available for public use. Visitors are encouraged to book in advance as the park returns to full capacity.
