Bontebok National Park Reopens Following Flood Rehabilitation
Bontebok National Park has officially commenced a phased reopening of its facilities after extensive repairs were completed following the May 2026 floods.
Phased Reopening Progress
Following the severe flood damage experienced in May 2026, Bontebok National Park has made significant strides in its rehabilitation efforts. As of August 2026, the park has entered a phased reopening stage, allowing visitors to return to several key areas of the reserve.
What is Currently Available
Visitors can now book and enjoy a selection of the park's most popular amenities. The current phase of reopening includes:
- Accommodation: Six self-catering chalets are now open for reservations.
- Camping: The main camping site is fully operational for outdoor enthusiasts.
- Hiking: Guests can once again explore the Aloe Hill, Acacia, and Termite hiking trails.
Ongoing Restoration
While the park is welcoming guests back, some areas remain under construction. The eight riverside chalets, Die Stroom Picnic Site, and the Bushbuck Trail are currently closed as refurbishment work continues. SANParks has expressed its gratitude to the public and tourism stakeholders for their patience during this recovery period. Further updates regarding the full reopening of all facilities will be provided as restoration work progresses.
